Like we said before, goal setting skills are quite difficult, however, if you can get Specific with your goal, it’s a start.
When you make a Specific goal, you have a better chance of actually achieving the goal. And, if you achieve your fitness goal, you’ve began to gain confidence and momentum to continue to move forward.
For instance, a common Specific goal is lose 10 pounds, trim 5 inches around my waist, get promoted to Director of Sales, or something along those lines.
However, you need to remember that Specific goals should have the 5 W’s too.
What – What do I want to accomplish?
Who – Who’s involved? Your husband? Boyfriend/Girlfriend? Family? Friends? This helps with accountability.
Where – Are you going to join a gym? Or would you prefer to join a Fitness Program that holds you accountable?
When – When are you wanting to achieve your goal?
Why – Is it for a good reason? Make sure it’s what YOU want, not someone else.

It’s 2010 and many of us have set some goals for the new year. Some are pretty lofty goals, while others are just designed to get the ball rolling – rather a short or mid term goal.
However, have you ever tried to set a S.M.A.R.T. goal?
I bet you haven’t. Seriously.
First of all, goal setting skills are very difficult to obtain. Mainly because we sometimes do not have an accountability system.
Chief Fitness Instructor, Javier Lozano, Jr. has been training in the Martial Arts for 20 years, has won a World Title and Colorado State Title in fighting, helps others achieve their goals, and owns and operates a successful Martial Arts & Fitness school in Westminster — therefore he knows a thing or two about goal setting.
But, before we talk about our Fitness Boot Camps, we want to give you some S.M.A.R.T. goals and relate them to our Fitness Boot Camp.
So over the next several weeks you will learn not only how you can begin to set S.M.A.R.T. goals, but also start to lose weight and get in shape for the Spring.
The training was 2 1/2 days worth of self-defense, fitness, and marketing. Mike Massie went over the curriculum for the adult Self-Defense Program by explaining many of the techniques move-by-move, and allowing us to ask questions during the process.
Our training on Saturday went from 9am to 6:30pm with about 1 1/2 hour lunch break… which was well needed. We covered everything from basic jab / crosses, to defense against head kicks, defense against rear naked chokes, defense against head locks, defense against wrist grabs, and grappling defense — from the mount and guard position.
After the training session, many of the participants went to get dinner, while I stayed in Orlando with my younger sister to celebrate her birthday.
The following day, we went through a Fighting Fit2 Boot Camp class which lasted about 1 1/2 hours, since Mike wanted to cover various exercises and alternative ways to perform them.
Talk about a killer workout. You couple the intense, yet exciting Boot Camp with a nutrition plan geared to work, you’re bound to lose weight.
I started the nutrition plan that Mike Massie put together back in September and I ended up losing about 25 pounds in about 6 weeks. I have not weighed 190 lbs since I was fighting professionally in Sport Karate. I was about 20 at the time…
At the conclusion of the seminar, all licensed instructors got their Level One Certification in the Self Defense Black Belt Program and Fighting Fit2 Boot Camp. A great accomplishment for myself and others, to this date.
Below are some pictures of the weekend. My training partner, for the most part was Gary, but Mike ended up picking on me quite a bit, since I was closest to his height…

Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve been training for nearly 20 years in the Martial Arts, teaching for over 15 years, currently hold a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Wado Karate, and won a World Championship title in fighting. My classes are exciting, informative, and hard — you’ll get a workout!
Until Next Time…
