Broomfield Breast Cancer Boot Camp

May 18th, 2010

Westminster, CO — May 18th 2010 – Breast Cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women.  There are several organizations out there, such as the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and many more, that put on weekend long events where the entire country, regions, states, counties, and towns, can gather together to raise money and find a cure for breast cancer.

Local martial arts expert and certified personal trainer, Javier Lozano, Jr. is the owner and chief instructor at The Dojo of Karate & Fitness in Westminster, and plans on hosting their 1st Inaugural Breast Cancer Boot Camp on June 12th, 2010.

Their goal is to raise over $3,000 and donate the funds to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

However, Coach Lozano plans on approaching this fundraiser a little different.

He wants to get all of his martial arts and fitness members involved too, even though some of the students may be too young to train in a boot camp session.

His plan of attack…? pink karate belts.

Coach Lozano says, “We will be selling pink karate belts to students for them to wear during the week of June 7th to June 12th during their martial arts classes.  This way, they can show their support in finding a cure for breast cancer.  When we brought up the concept a couple of months ago, students were extremely excited about the idea, and couldn’t wait to signup.”

The pink martial arts belts will be on sale for purchase at $15 per belt, with approximately $10 of the proceeds going to the Avon Walk For Breast Cancer.

Than, on Saturday, June 12th from 9:30am to 10:30am The Dojo of Karate & Fitness will be hosting the official Breast Cancer Boot Camp.  A 1-hour boot camp session where participants will have an opportunity to workout in the popular fitness boot camp class.

Their boot camps really focus on variety.

“When someone asks what a typical boot camp consists of, I sort of tell them we do not have a normal routine or workout” says Coach Lozano.  “Now if they want to know what people are saying about our programs and how they feel after the workout, the best example is that they leave feeling like jelly, sweating like pigs, and hurting… while having a big smile on their face.”

The Broomfield Fitness Boot Camp, as it’s known by locals, train with a variety of exercise equipment.  This way, it keeps the workouts interesting, and the athletes on their toes.

For instance, they use resistance bands instead of dumb-bells because it becomes more difficult to control the bands.  There is resistance on both the pushing / pulling motion, as well as the retrieving motion.

In addition, Coach Lozano teaches them how to use sandbags.  It’s an unorthodox way of training because the sand will shift in all different ways, making it difficult to maintain control.  This forces athletes to use their stabilizer muscles too.

“Plus, I tell them they can put on their resume that they are professional sandbag movers, incase an employer is trying to set apart candidates” says Lozano jokingly.

And, the ever so kettlebells are another piece of equipment they train with too.  Kettlebells are beginning to gain popularity because of its functional type movement, strength and cardio exercise, and great results athletes are gaining.

After the Breast Cancer Boot Camp, Coach Lozano invited a local chiropractor from Countryside Health and Wellness, to discuss ways to prevent breast cancer — from diet and nutrition, to physical fitness and exercise.

This will be a 30 minute educational class, in order to teach all of the participants on how they can help prevent breast cancer.

The cost to participate in the Breast Cancer Boot is only $30 per participant with approximately $20 of the proceeds going towards the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

And, if you decide to signup for the Breast Cancer Boot Camp, than Coach Lozano will apply a $30 discount to your 1st month of training.

This is a great way to get introduced into the Broomfield Fitness Boot Camp.

Broomfield Fitness Boot Camp Challenge Winner

May 10th, 2010

As many of you know, The Dojo of Karate & Fitness ran a Fitness Boot Camp Challenge during the last 4 week cycle.

Basically, we challenged our athletes to follow our nutritional plan, workout 3 days per week in our boot camp and train on their own during the week too.

By doing so, we guaranteed they would lose at least 1 inch around their waist and / or hips.

In addition, we took everyone’s body fat percentage, as we used that number as our baseline and used the value to determine a winner in our contest.

The winner would receive 1 free month of training in our fitness boot camp.

The best part about this contest was that our athletes really started to take their training a bit more serious and rooting for each other when they would retest during PFT Day (Physical Fitness Training Day).

Plus, Coach Lozano was extremely happy on how all of his athletes tried their best during every group fitness class.

So, the winner of the Fitness Boot Camp Challenge was Marival G. from Brighton, Colorado.  She lost 1.6% body fat, dropped 3.5 lbs, went down 1.5 inches around her hips, and shaved 25 seconds off her 1 mile run… in just 4 weeks!

She has made a lifestyle change by being dedicated in her training, diet, and habits.

Congratulations Marival!!

Broomfield Fitness Boot Camp Results

Here is an example of our Boot Campers getting immediate results in simply 4 weeks of training hard, following our nutrition plan, and having fun.

Below is Sheri’s results. The first set of numbers are from the week 1, while the 2nd set of numbers are from week 4. She’s going to continue her training too because she’s PROUD of her results!!!

Sheri

Notice that Sheri improved her 2 minute push-ups from only performing 8 to improving it by nearly 1 1/2 times to 22 push-ups in 2 minutes.

Now, just wait until you see what happens in another 4 weeks…

The next one is from Marival…

She’s already making a lifestyle change by training on her boot camp off days, eating healthy and getting her boyfriend to participate in the sessions too. This has not become a family change, rather than an individual goal.

Finally, we have Heather, who has a made a lifestyle change by joining our Family Martial Arts program with her son and significant other. So, she’s been training pretty hard in our classes, but wanted to get back into running shape for the Summer.

Pretty amazing stuff… Oh, and by the way, those push up aren’t a mistake… she cranked those numbers out.

Selectig a Fitness Boot Camp in Broomfield & Westminster – Part 2

April 1st, 2010

Last time we discussed the importance of having a well educated and certified Fitness Boot Camp instructor, as well as a professional facility.

Today we are going to venture even further into selecting the best Fitness Boot Camp in Broomfield, Westminster, Thornton, Erie, or Denver Colorado.

Below are some other tips that you should for when choosing boot camp program.

Do They Offer Various Exercise Equipment?

Now this is probably just as important as the actual Boot Camp Instructor’s credentials.

What type of equipment do they use? Is it enough to make the exercises different during each session? Is the exercise equipment well maintained and free of damage where you could get injured?

A good, organized, and challenging boot camp will offer several types of training equipment for various exercises, allowing you to learn new training methods and making every session different.  Let’s face it.  Variety is the spice of life.  Fitness is no different.

At the Broomfield and Westminster Boot Camp, participants will train with the following tools.

  • body weight exercises
  • resistant bands
  • medicine balls
  • kettlebells
  • sandbags
  • just to name a few of their exercise equipment.

Why so many options?  Muscle confusion.  If you confuse the muscles by using so many different tools, but doing the same “type” of exercise, than you begin to build lean muscle faster because the muscles are not having the opportunity to adapt to an exercise.

Typically, your body will reach a point where it plateaus and no longer develops because it has adapted.

Is Cardio Training Apart of Their Sessions?

First of all, let’s clear something up.

Cardio does NOT help you lose weight.

Cardio simply builds a healthier heart by getting oxygen into the biggest muscles in your body, the legs (quads, hamstrings, and cavs).  Oxygen is needed in order to live.  If your muscles do not get enough oxygen through exercise (the heart pumps it for you) than you can almost guarantee yourself a shorter and unhealthy life.

In order to get oxygen into your legs, you need to jog / run.  Walking is good too, but remember, we are in a fitness boot camp, not walking the dog!

Our Fitness Boot Camps builds in a 15-20 minute window for cardio.  However, we do cardio VERY different.  We implement Interval Training, which is considered the best type of training for professional athletes in practically ANY sport.

Interval Training is basically short, bursts of exercises, for a short period of time, with a high recovery period.

Why is Interval Training so important?

After the training session, you will continue to burn calories 24-36 hours AFTER your workout.  You don’t get that during a normal 2 mile run.  Unless you incorporate interval training.

Now, we also offer other types of cardio training, such as kickboxing, but that is only because we are also a professional martial arts school.  Other boot camps don’t offer that.

Do They Offer A Nutrition Guide?

Most trainers do not understand this, unless they were a certified fitness and personal trainer.

Nutrition is the key to weight loss.  Exercise simply helps keep the weight off during and after you reach your fitness goals.

If a Fitness Boot Camp offers the nutrition portion of their training at an additional cost, move on.  They should understand that nutrition is actually MORE important to their client at the beginning than anything else.

The Broomfield and Westminster Boot Camp requires their boot campers to participate in the nutrition portion of the boot camp sessions because they are trying to teach healthy eating habits, and how watching what you put into your temple (your body) will directly effect the results you will plan on achieving.

And, they do not charge extra for it.  It’s part of your membership.

If a trainer does not put you on a nutrition plan, not only do they not care about your goals, but they are not very sure how to help you meet your fitness and weight loss goals.

Our unique and powerful nutrition plan is extremely simple to follow, yet it delivers the results we all desire.  All it takes some dedication, perseverance, determination, and a trainer that wants to help you succeed.

Now that you know what you should look for in a Fitness Boot Camp, call The Dojo of Karate and Fitness.  They are a professional martial arts and fitness school that specializes in helping people achieve their goals.  They offer the best fitness program in Broomfield, Westminster, and Thornton Colorado called Fighting Fit2 Boot Camp Fitness Program.
